Dr. Sankey created THE NEXT STEP OT to fill a void in access to Mental Health Occupational Therapy services in Arizona, specifically for young adults and adults with hoarding, autism, addiction, and more.
Typically, young adults have aged out of high school services but are getting ready to transition to adulthood, enter college, or live independently. The next step to finding services can be a difficult road and is often a long process to participate in state run services.
When accessing services, some individuals do not have a severe enough deficit or a required diagnosis to qualify as medically necessary for insurance or to receive state funded therapy. This model of therapy services and insurance reimbursement is too restrictive or not even accessible for your actual needs.
The difference THE NEXT STEP OT makes is providing Mental Health Occupational Therapy services truly focused on your next step towards independence, which is a valuable investment in your quality of life. I'm here to eliminate the wait by providing direct access to needed services.
There is a common quote in recovery, “It’s not about the first step. It’s about the next step that matters most.”
It's in that next step where you have an opportunity to prevent a relapse, de-escalate a crisis, increase your independence, or be one step closer to reaching your goals. It's up to you.
THE NEXT STEP OT’s mission is to:
THE NEXT STEP OT’s vision is to:
"The aspect of my life that has changed the most as a result of OT is finding balance. OT helped me round out all the areas of my life in order to maintain a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. That includes healthy eating, budgeting, positive outlets for fun and many other things." - Andrew, former client
"So much of treatment is life history, emotional regulation and feelings. Treatment gives you a better understanding of how the addict got to be the way they are today. However, there's not a ton of practical application instruction that comes with it. You have all of this self-knowledge which is great, just no plan for moving forward. That's where OT has come into play for me. It gives me the skills to use all the intel I acquired while I was in treatment and practically apply it to my daily life. That's where I have fallen short in the past. I'm very grateful for OT because of this. Probably my biggest takeaway." - George, former client
"I’ve benefited in many ways but probably the most beneficial was going over the fundamentals. Everything we went over was very applicable to reality of my life and could actually make a difference in the very next day. Also, we worked on emotional awareness and stability, which I still carry that information learned to this day." - Paul, former client
