Focus on Function

Are you wanting to know how much assistance is needed or how functionally independent your client is? How do you know if your client is safe to live independently?

Dr. Sankey is a life skills expert. As a Mental Health Occupational Therapist, she uses occupations and activities to evaluate functional skills and the type of assistance a person may need. She then works with the client to increase their independence, safety awareness, and functional performance.

Occupational Therapy helps with:

  • create healthy routines and habits
  • promote or enhance functional performance
  • establish a new skill or ability
  • restore function, skill, or ability once lost or diminished
  • maintain and preserve function
  • modify, compensate, or adapt activities and performance
  • prevent or reduce decline or disbilities

Mental Health Occupational Therapy

Dr. Sankey sees young adults and adults in Cave Cree, Arizona, with mental health or cognitive diagnoses.

She is culturally sensitive and uses a trauma-informed approach while working with her clients. She collaborates using a client-centered approach to identify meaningful goals with her clients and involved parties (families, providers, etc) to:

  • Increase functional performance and independent living skills
  • Create sustainable habits and routines
  • Implement harm reduction strategies and safety awareness
  • Learn sensory-based coping skills to improve self-awarenss and self-regulation
  • Develop executive functioning and goal attainment skills
  • Support medication and chronic disease management skills
  • Improve social participation and pro-social communication skills

Collaboration is Key

Dr. Sankey believes communication and collaboration are the keys to a client's success. This is why she encourages clients to have a Release of information (ROI) with providers on their team to support continuity of care.

Dr. Sankey looks forward to working with you to improve our client's outcomes.

Finding Balance in Recovery

Finding Balance in Recovery

Finding Balance in Recovery

"The aspect of my life that has changed the most as a result of OT is finding balance. OT helped me round out all the areas of my life in order to maintain a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. That includes healthy eating, budgeting, positive outlets for fun and many other things." - Andrew, former client

Practical Solutions

Finding Balance in Recovery

Finding Balance in Recovery

"So much of treatment is life history, emotional regulation and feelings. Treatment gives you a better understanding of how the addict got to be the way they are today. However, there's not a ton of practical application instruction that comes with it. You have all of this self-knowledge which is great, just no plan for moving forward. That's where OT has come into play for me. It gives me the skills to use all the intel I acquired while I was in treatment and practically apply it to my daily life. That's where I have fallen short in the past. I'm very grateful for OT because of this. Probably my biggest takeaway." - George, former client

"I’ve benefited in many ways but probably the most beneficial was going over the fundamentals. Everything we went over was very applicable to reality of my life and could actually make a difference in the very next day. Also, we worked on emotional awareness and stability, which I still carry that information learned to this day." - Paul, former client
