"So much of treatment is life history, emotional regulation and feelings. Treatment gives you a better understanding of how the addict got to be the way they are today. However, there's not a ton of practical application instruction that comes with it. You have all of this self-knowledge which is great, just no plan for moving forward. That's where OT has come into play for me. It gives me the skills to use all the intel I acquired while I was in treatment and practically apply it to my daily life.
